Are you still using a SASSA gold card to receive your grants? If so, urgent action is needed. According to vocfm.co.za SASSA has announced that gold cards will be discontinued from 1 March 2025, requiring beneficiaries to switch to Postbank black cards to continue receiving payments.

Why Are SASSA Gold Cards Being Discontinued?

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) confirmed that gold cards will no longer be valid after February 2025. This decision follows multiple extensions allowing beneficiaries to transition to Postbank black cards, which are now mandatory for continued access to social grants.

SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi emphasized the importance of switching before the deadline to avoid disruptions in payments. He warned that from 1 March 2025, gold cards will not be accepted for grant withdrawals or transactions.

How to Switch to a Postbank Black Card?

To ensure uninterrupted access to your SASSA grant, follow these steps:

  • Visit an approved Postbank branch or retailer to apply for a black card.
  • Carry your valid ID and current SASSA gold card for verification.
  • Complete the required paperwork and collect your new card after approval.

Alternatively, you can check the nearest card swap outlets by dialing *120*218*3# on your mobile phone.

What Happens If You Don’t Switch Before 1 March?

If you fail to change your gold card before the deadline:

  • You won’t be able to withdraw your SASSA grant using your expired gold card.
  • Long queues and delays may occur at Postbank branches, affecting fund access.
  • You may face payment disruptions and need manual verification to receive your grant.

Can Beneficiaries Still Access Their Funds Without a Black Card?

Yes, but only temporarily. Postbank has announced that beneficiaries who haven’t switched by 1 March 2025 can still collect grants at Postbank branches. However, SASSA advises switching as soon as possible to avoid inconvenience and delays.

Final Reminder: Switch Before 1 March 2025

To avoid payment delays and disruptions, all SASSA beneficiaries must switch to the Postbank black card before 1 March 2025. Visit your nearest Postbank branch, authorized outlet, or dial *120*218*3# to find a location near you.
